The optical construction of the lens involves 14 elements in 11 groups, which include 2 extra low-dispersion elements and 3 aspherical elements to prevent spherical aberrations and chromatic anomalies throughout the zoom range. The nanocrystal and super-integrated coatings help improve the sharpness of images and eliminate ghosting effects and lens flares. Further, the protective fluorine coating keeps elements such as dust and moisture away from the lens. This Nikon lens has a nine-blade electromagnetic diaphragm that provides clear images with a fine bokeh effect.
