The Nikon D300 is a DX format 12.3 MP DSLR camera that provides responsive focus and high-speed continuous capture of 6 fps. This lens can fit Nikon F-mount lenses. It is fitted with a 12.3 MP DX-format CMOS sensor and Expeed image processing engine. The 51-point autofocus system with 3D focus tracking accurately keep the focus fixed on the subject even when it is in motion. You can compose the shot with the camera's LCD screen in Live View mode. The Scene Recognition System utilizes the Nikon 1005-pixel RGB color sensor to set the correct exposure and white balance setting. This DSLR has a built-in flash with an effective range of 56 feet at ISO 200. You can connect an external flash to the hot shoe or PC terminal. The camera functions on an EN-EL3e Li-ion battery.

Optics and Focus

The camera can work with Nikon F-mount lenses. You can select the metering method from matrix, center-weighted average, or spot. The camera's 51-point autofocus system includes 15 cross-type sensors and 36 horizontal sensors to deliver focusing precision. Also, the camera incorporates 3D tracking with automatic focus point switching that utilizes all 51 focus points to determine the focus on objects by identifying their color and light information. The Scene Recognition System uses the Nikon 1005-pixel RGB color sensor to decide the correct exposure setting based on the subject shape and position. With the Active-D lighting mode, you get real-time highlight and shadow correction.

Sensor and Screen

The camera takes pictures by using the 12.3 MP DX-format CMOS sensor. Additionally, the self-cleaning design of the sensor removes dust from its surface, thus ensuring image quality for a long time. The 3.0-inch LCD screen provides crisp Live View of the shot. Also, it has a wide viewing angle to make it easy to read from up to 170°. The LCD also adjust its color according to the lighting conditions. A tampered glass protection is provided on the screen to keep it safe from scratches and minor impacts. The fixed eye-level viewfinder offers 100% screen coverage.

Image and Video

The camera can take still shots in JPEG and TIFF format. You can also capture RAW format images to adjust their RGB range in an image editing software. This camera is fitted with the Expeed image processing engine that supports the continuous burst shooting mode at 6 fps. The camera offers four picture control settings, namely standard, neutral, vivid, and monochrome. You can adjust the image parameters of these settings in the picture control menu. The camera can provide a total of 41 RAW, 28 TIFF, and 179 high-resolution or 2560 low-resolution JPEG images.

Other Features

The built-in flash offers well-illuminated images at ISO 200 for up to 56 feet. You can fit Nikon CLS series flash units to the hot shoe or PC terminal. The connect strobe can be synchronized with the shutter at 1/250th of a second. An optional Nikon WT-4 wireless transmitter can be connected to the camera for transferring images to servers or remotely controlling the camera. You can create up to 9 customized picture control settings and export up to 99 to a CF card. The camera body is built of magnesium alloy to ensure durability.
