The Nikon EM SLR Camera with 43–86mm f/3.5 lens is ideal for both landscape and nature photography. The camera can also be used with other Nikon F-mount lenses. It comes with an automatic exposure that decides the appropriate camera setting based on aperture priority. The Nikon EM has a center-weighted TTL light metering and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 1600. The shutter speed can be increased up to 1/1000th of a second. With the 0.86× pentaprism viewfinder, the camera provides 92% screen coverage. Moreover, the viewfinder includes a Nikon ‘K’ focusing screen. You may attach an external flash to the hot shoe located on top of the camera. Other functions include a self-timer, frame counter, battery-check button, and backlight-illumination button.

Optics and Focus

A Nikon Nikkor 43–86mm f/3.5 lens comes with the Nikon EM camera. The lens is constructed with nine optical elements arranged in seven groups. It has a manual focus system with reference markings at 43mm, 50mm, 60mm, 70mm, and 86mm. The camera's auto-exposure mode, which is based on aperture priority, determines the suitable aperture and shutter speed for every shot. This camera has an ISO limit of up to 1600 and shutter speed of up to 1/1000th of a second. With the exposure-compensation button, the camera lets you overcome high or low exposures.

Sensor and Screen

This Nikon camera has a pentaprism viewfinder that offers a 0.86× magnification and 92% screen coverage. Further, the Nikon ‘K’ focusing screen assists you while keeping the object in focus. There are needles in the viewfinder to indicate the shutter speed and high or low exposure.

Image and Video

This Nikon SLR camera can be used with a 35mm film having a speed between ASA 25 and 1600. The frame counter at the top automatically advances after each shot. Also, it resets itself to the initial value when the camera is opened. A rapid wind lever, which has a clearance of 144°, can be used to advance the film.

Other Features

The Nikon EM comes with a self-timer that can be used to delay the shutter release by 10 seconds. Photography-related information such as film speed and location of shoot can be written and kept in the memo holder at the back. The ISO-type hot shoe allows you to connect an external flash that can automatically synchronize with the shutter at 1/90th of a second. A single 3V lithium battery or two 1.55V silver-oxide batteries can be used to power the auto-exposure mode in the Nikon EM.
