Overview

The Sony Alpha a6400 Mirrorless Digital Camera is the newest member of the renowned alpha mirrorless series. It inherits the world's fast autofocus system along with real-time Eye-AF tracking feature. The 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS image sensor along with the latest BIONZ X image processor offers vibrant images and 4K movies while restricting noise. In this new mirrorless camera, you can tilt the rear LCD by 180° upwards to record vlogs. An XGA OLED Tru-finder EVF gives you a live view of the scene. The continuous shooting mode is capable of capturing 11 fps. Professional picture profiles such as S-Log2 and S-Log3 return in the camera for offering flexibility during color grading. The built-in HLG picture profile allows you to streamline the HDR capture process. This Sony mirrorless camera features Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity options for instant image transfer and remote shooting.

Optics and Focus

The Sony a6400 is compatible with Sony E-mount lenses. With the world's fastest autofocus system, you can acquire focus on an object in merely 0.02 seconds. The autofocus system includes up to 425 AF areas of both phase detection and contrast detection methods. These AF zones cover up to 84% of the imaging area. The real-time tracking allows you to capture clear and sharp images of moving objects. With the real-time eye AF, you can take perfect portrait shots. The camera includes both mechanical and electronic shutter options. As for the camera sensitivity, the native ISO of up to 32000 benefits low light shooting. You can extend the ISO up to 102400.

Sensor and Screen

The 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS image sensor ensures improved light gathering capabilities for low-light photography. It maintains the image quality even at ISO of 6400. The 3-inch LCD touchscreen can tilt 180° upwards to facilitate vlog workflows and high or low angle shooting. The touch-to-focus feature lets you perform focus pulls during video capture. With the XGA Tru-finder EVF, you can monitor the exposure live during image capture. The OLED viewfinder allows you to accurately track fast-moving objects as the refresh rate can be set to 120 fps.

Image and Video

The Sony a6400 mirrorless camera records UHD 4K videos at up to 30 fps. With the Full HD mode, the frame rate can be set up to 120 fps for capturing slow-motion shots without loss in quality. In the photo mode, the camera captures 24 MP images in a maximum resolution of 6000×4000 pixels. The a6400 brings the professional picture profiles from its predecessors, which include S-Log2 and S-Log3 gamma. These picture profiles expand the dynamic range of the image to use LUTs during post-production. You can plug the camera to an HLG-compatible monitor for view the footage in normal colors. Turn on the zebra function to see which part of the image is overexposed. The burst mode has a maximum capture speed of 11 fps with the mechanical shutter and 8 fps with the electronic shutter. You can also shoot time-lapses with an interval duration of 1 to 60 seconds.

Other Features

Enable the built-in Wi-Fi or use the Near Field Connectivity feature to link this Sony mirrorless camera with your smartphone. It allows you to send captured photos to mobiles or remotely control the camera via the Sony PlayMemories app. The camera has a built-in flash as well as a hot shoe for external flash connection. You can plug an external microphone into the 3.5mm audio input. There are 8 customizable keys that can be used for assigning up to 89 camera functions. The magnesium-alloy chassis ensures durability. Along with the camera, you get an NP-FW50 Li-ion battery.
