Can the Sony Alpha A100 do multiple exposures, and how can I create the effect?

I use a Sony Alpha A100 and would like to create a double- or multiple-exposure look. Does this camera support multiple exposures in-camera? If not, what is the practical way to make this effect with software?

A100 was my first DSLR. Although it was a very capable camera, I can tell from experience that you cannot do multiple exposures in camera.
Almost all image manipulation software offer capabilities to define layers and adjust their opacity, that way you can use any number of overlapped images to simulate multiple exposures.

The Sony Alpha A100 does not support multiple exposures in-camera.
To create the same look, you’ll need to combine separate photos in image-editing software. The usual method is to place each image on its own layer, then lower the layer opacity or use blending controls so the images overlap like a multiple exposure.
So, with the A100, the workflow is:
- Shoot the images separately.
- Open them in an editor that supports layers.
- Stack the images on different layers.
- Adjust opacity/blending until you get the effect you want.
This is the standard workaround when a camera doesn’t offer a built-in multiple-exposure mode.
