Will an older Sigma 75-300mm Minolta A-mount lens work on a Sony A330, and can Sigma update it?

I have a Minolta 7000 AF film camera from the 1980s and a Sigma 75-300mm autofocus lens that works on that camera. My original Minolta AF lenses also work on my Sony Alpha 330, including autofocus, but the Sigma lens does not work at all on the Sony body. Can older Sigma Minolta A-mount lenses be rechipped or electronically updated for compatibility with the Sony A330, or is replacement the only realistic option?

I'm sorry to say, but Sigma doesn't offer chip upgrades for such an old lenses anymore.
I don't know which exact version you have, but if it's Sigma 75-300 F4-5.6 DL Zoom or Sigma 75-300 F4.5-5.6 APO, in theory it should work with your A330. I'd suspect hardware damage, though there's hardly anything you can do with that anymore.
I'd suggest buying new Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro, as it's roughly the cheapest lens from these that are "good enough" to bother. ;) Alternative would be Tamron SP 70-300mm F 4-5.6 Di USD - I got that one, and in it's own price-point it's really the best thing on the market, regardless of they bayonet.

Probably not. Older Sigma A-mount lenses sometimes have compatibility problems with later Sony/Minolta digital bodies because of the lens electronics. Based on the community answer, Sigma no longer offers chip upgrades for lenses this old.
If your lens is one of the older Sigma 75-300mm versions for Minolta A-mount, it should in theory be mount-compatible with the Sony A330, so if it does not work at all, it may also have an electronic or hardware fault. Unfortunately, for a lens of that age, repair or updating is generally not practical.
The realistic solution is usually replacement with a newer compatible telephoto zoom. Suggested alternatives from the answers were the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro or the Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di USD.
