The Bronica SQ-A Medium Format SLR Camera entered the photography market in 1980 and has been trusted by wedding and portrait photographers alike given that it provides a large image area. The SQ-A camera has an 80mm f/2.8 Zenzanon-S lens attached to the front. This camera features a Bronica 4-claw bayonet lens mount and an electronic Seiko BTL shutter offering a speed of up to 1/500th of a second. The camera can take pictures with 120 and 220 film rolls. The mirror lock-up setup enables you to make long exposures and minimize vibration when using long lenses. In addition, Speed Grip S offers fast film advance, and an ergonomic design ensures comfort. This camera enables automatic film advance to make sequential shooting possible. An external flash can be connected to the camera with the X-sync point, with the leaf shutter design offering speeds of up to 1/500th of a second. The camera's electronic shutter is powered by a single 6V silver oxide or alkaline battery.
Optics and Focus
This Bronica SQ-A is accompanied by an 80mm f/2.8 Zenzanon-S lens, which makes this camera ideal for amateur or professional level photographers. The lens' optical construction comprises 6 elements arranged in 4 groups. With the multi-layer anti-reflection coating, the amount of ghosting and flare is reduced to improve contrast. The lens offers a 51° angle of view and a minimum focusing distance of 80cm. You may attach a 67mm circular filter on the front thread of the lens.
Sensor and Screen
The camera has the standard waist-level finder attached to it. Its flip-up magnifier comes to your aid during focusing operation. This standard finder has a fixed eyepiece diopter at +1.5m. Other automatic exposure metering finders can be interchanged with the standard finder.
Image and Video
The camera uses 120 and 220 film rolls to provide up to 12 and 24 exposures respectively. The exposure counter denotes the number of frames used. It will reset to the initial count when the film back is opened.
Other Features
The Bronica SQ-A SLR provides X-synchronization electronic flash units. Once a flash unit is connected, it can be synchronized with a shutter speed of 1/500th of a second. There is a battery check button that lights up the small LEDs located at the camera's front if the power cells are functioning. The camera uses a single 6V silver oxide or 4 LR44 alkaline battery to power its electronic shutter and optional metering finders. Furthermore, this camera can be made fully TTL compatible with the Metz SCA 386 system, Quantum “Q” Flash, and Sunpak flash systems with the use of appropriate modules.
