Can you speed up AF point selection on the Fujifilm X-Pro1?

On the Fujifilm X-Pro1, changing the autofocus point normally requires pressing the AF button, moving the point with the four-way controller, and confirming. Is there any built-in shortcut or setting that lets you select AF points more quickly, such as using the directional pad directly without first pressing the AF button?

Needs a firmware update to address; obvious solution is to allow the Fn button to be programmed to act as the AF selector then at least it is easily accessible during shooting.
However, this needs people to tell Fujifilm that they would like this. I called the FujiFilm Pro Digital team (1-800-800-3854 Option #1 and then Option #2) and they put me through to a person who said it was an excellent suggestion, took details and said they would pass it onto Japan for consideration.

No—there isn’t a hidden setting or shortcut on the X-Pro1 that makes AF point selection substantially faster than the standard AF-button workflow.
Based on the community answers, this would require a firmware change rather than a menu option you may have missed. One suggested improvement was allowing the Fn button to be reassigned to AF point selection, but that was not available on the X-Pro1 as described.
Fujifilm appears to have recognized the issue in later cameras, which added a dedicated focus joystick for faster AF point movement.
So if you want direct AF point control from the four-way pad, the X-Pro1 does not offer that behavior. The practical takeaway is that there’s no secret workaround on this model; it’s a design limitation unless Fujifilm were to change it via firmware.
