Canon 60D AF points disappear too quickly when selecting focus point

On my Canon 60D, pressing the AF point selection button briefly shows the 9 focus points, but they disappear before I can choose one with the dial. This used to work normally, and I don’t remember changing any settings. I also noticed some playback images show red focus points, and in Live View I sometimes can’t get focus confirmation. Is there a setting on the 60D that controls AF point selection behavior, or could the camera be faulty?

When I started to use the new camera this was also the case, but more recently, when I hit the AF point selection button, the 9 red points appear, but only for a fraction of a second, and then disapear before I can make a choice.
- Select any of the Creative Modes (P/Tv/Av/M/B/C) on the top mode dial
- Press the Menu button
- Navigate to Custom Functions tab
- Navigate to C.Fn III: Autofocus/Drive
- Navigate to second page - C.Fn III: Autofocus/Drive AF point selection method
- Make sure your value for this option is set to 0
I have also found when I check past pics on the camera, some include the red focus points - which is pretty weird!
- Press the Menu button
- Navigate to blue menu section 2
- Make sure "AF point disp." is set to Disabled

Generated from our catalog & community — verify before relying on it.
This is most likely a setting change, not a fault.
On the 60D, check the AF point selection method:
- Set the mode dial to a Creative mode: P, Tv, Av, M, B, or C.
- Press Menu.
- Go to Custom Functions.
- Open C.Fn III: Autofocus/Drive.
- Go to the second page.
- Find AF point selection method.
- Set it to 0.
That should restore normal AF point selection so the points stay available long enough to choose one.
For the red focus points appearing during playback, that is a separate display option:
- Press Menu.
- Go to the blue playback menu section 2.
- Set AF point disp. to Disabled if you don’t want to see them on reviewed images.
So the camera likely isn’t defective; the AF point selection and playback focus-point display are controlled by menu settings.
