The Pentax K1 DSLR is a flagship model of the brand's K-mount system. It uses a 36.4 MP full-frame CMOS sensor along with a Prime IV image processor to offer fine image details with reduced noise at high ISO sensitivities up to 204800. The camera can record 1080p videos at 30 fps and shoot continuous images at 4.5 fps. The SAFOX 12 AF system is designed for working with the camera's full-frame sensor to ensure precise focusing performance down to -3 EV. Also, the focus peaking mode is included to benefit manual focusing work. You can fit APS-C format lenses to the camera as it has a dedicated crop mode. The built-in GPS automatically tracks the movement and location as you travel and writes the data on the image file. This Pentax camera runs on a D-LI90 Li-ion battery.
Optics and Focus
You can fit K-mount lenses to the camera. The camera provides center-weighted average, evaluative, and spot metering exposure patterns. You can set the automatic exposure mode based on the shutter, aperture, ISO sensitivity, program, bulb, or manual. The SAFOX 12 AF system has a total of 33 AF points with 25 cross-type points and three f/2.8 luminance sensors to provide accurate focusing performance in low light down to -3 EV. This camera has the real-time scene analysis system to look after the exposure, color, movement, and more to optimize the image setting.
Sensor and Screen
The 36.4MP full-frame CMOS sensor provides high-resolution imagery with minimal noise. With the optical low-pass filter omitted, the camera offers high image sharpness. To combat the distortion, you can use the AA filter simulator function to make the sensor mimic the effects of a physical filter. The 3.2-inch LCD can be tilted to employ high or low angle shooting techniques. You can adjust the LCD brightness to work in various lighting conditions. The optical viewfinder has a 0.70× magnification and adjustable diopter range of -3.5 to +1.2 m. With LCD and viewfinder, you get screen coverage of 100%.
Image and Video
The Pentax K1 captures still shots in JPEG, DNG, and RAW format with a maximum resolution of 7360×4912 dpi. You can record Full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps. The camera also has 24 and 25 fps options to give your video a film-like look. The Prime IV image processor offers fast processing speeds to support the 1080p video recording and continuous shooting at 4.5 fps. Thanks to the 5-axis in-body image stabilization, the effects of camera shakes are lessened by 5 stops. Additionally, the image stabilization is based on sensor-shift technology so that there is no image cropping when stabilizing the shot.
Other Features
The built-in Wi-Fi makes you transfer images to a smartphone or remotely control the camera. With the Diffraction Correction function, the camera takes the diffraction at small apertures into consideration and enhances the sharpness. When traveling with the camera, the integrated GPS tags your location to the captured images. The AstroTracer function can be used when capturing photos of stars in the blub mode.
