It features a 12.3 MP DX-format CMOS image sensor that works in tandem with the EXPEED image processor for capturing high-quality imagery. The D-Movie Mode lets you record astounding 720p HD videos. The 11-point autofocus system in the camera boasts 3D Focus Tracking technology for focusing on subjects automatically, with immense sharpness. The 2.7-inch LCD screen, which can be flipped inward for safe storage, offers a resolution of 230,000 dots and a 170°-wide viewing angle for shooting from fresh perspectives.

Optics and Focus

The Nikon D5000 comes with an 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX lens that provides a 3x focal zoom range for bringing distant subjects closer to your line of sight. Use the 11-point autofocus system, which comes with 3D Focus Tracking technology, for automatically focusing on your subjects with a great deal of sharpness. Speaking of autofocus, the One-button Live View function offers four autofocus modes, including the Face-priority AF mode. The shutter speed ranges from 30 seconds to 1/4,000th of a second, and the ISO sensitivity can be adjusted between 100 and 6,400. The 19 auto-exposure scene modes in this camera come in handy for taking astounding pictures in a variety of photography scenarios.

Sensor and Screen

The D5000 from Nikon is equipped with a 12.3 MP DX-format CMOS image sensor, which enables you to shoot astounding pictures and HD videos. Use the four-frequency, ultrasonic sensor-cleaning technology for keeping your sensor clean at all times, so that your captured images remain spot-free, every time. The 2.7-inch LCD screen can be flipped inward, and comes with a 230,000-dot resolution, as well as a wide viewing angle of 170° for photographing subjects from various perspectives. Furthermore, the 17.9-mm viewfinder, which offers a 0.78x magnification and a quick-return-type reflex mirror, makes it possible to view subjects clearly even under the sunlight, where it generally becomes difficult to use the screen.

Apart from capturing RAW and JPEG images at a high 4288x2848-pixel resolution, this camera can record 720p HD videos with the D-Movie Mode enabled. You can shoot pictures continuously at a burst rate of up to 4 fps effortlessly, without facing any shooting lag. The EXPEED image processor helps in rendering captured content at an impressive speed with brilliant quality.
