Overview
The Nikon Z7 FX-Format Camera is the newest addition to the brand's mirrorless family. Compatible with Nikon Z-mount lenses, the camera uses the high-powered 45.7 MP BSI CMOS sensor and the advanced EXPEED 6 image processor to produce sharp imagery during photo capture as well as 4K video recording. When it comes to burst shooting, the Nikon Z7 delivers 9 fps burst shooting in RAW. For professional video shooting, the camera incorporates the N-Log gamma that records videos in a high-dynamic range to capture every detail in the scene. The zebra function ensures that you get know the overexposed areas in the shot. With the 5-axis optical VR system, the camera brings 5 stops of reduction in camera shakes when paired with NIKKOR Z lenses. You can take high or low angle shots easily thanks to the 2.1m-dot tilting LCD. The 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder also shows its prowess during continuous shooting where it minimizes screen blackout significantly. Share your captured experience with the world using the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. These wireless features not only allow image transfer but also enable remote shooting via Nikon SnapBridge.
Optics and Focus
The Nikon Z7 accepts Nikon Z-mount lenses. You may also attach the traditional F-mount lenses via the optional Nikon FTZ adapter. The Z-mount ensures fast communication between the camera and lens to improve AF performance and image processing. Furthermore, the mount is 17% wider than standard full-frame cameras to let more light reach the sensor to enhance the picture quality. The fast phase-detection system comprises 493 AF points that cover 90% of the imaging area for maintaining the focus on subjects even when they are at the edge of the frame. In the video mode, the camera switches to the Hybrid AF that swaps between phase and contrast detection methods to ensure accuracy. The camera houses a 5-axis sensor-shift VR system that cuts down unwanted shakes by 5 stops for Z-mount lenses and 3 stops for F-mount lenses.
Sensor and Screen
This Nikon Z series mirrorless camera is built around a 45.7MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor that provides fast readouts, enhanced low-light rendering, and responsive AF performance. Also, the back-illuminated design ensures minimal noise when working in low light at an ISO up to 25600. The large touchscreen LCD has a size of 3.2 inches that makes it easy to compose the shot. With the 2.1m-dot LCD resolution, you can view the recorded media clearly. Additionally, the tilting LCD design supports high and low angle shooting. For eye-level shooting, the Nikon Z7 incorporates a 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder with a fluorine coating on its optics.
Image and Video
The Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera is built by keeping professional video capture in mind. It records videos in stunning 4K quality at 30 fps. You may also shoot breath-taking 120 fps slow-motion videos in 1080p. For still shooting, the camera offers a maximum resolution of 8256×5504 pixels and captures images in JPEG and RAW formats. Equipped with an EXPEED 6 image processor, the camera can shoot burst RAW images at a rate of 9 fps. The 10-bit N-log recording captures the video in a flat profile for applying LUTs during the post-production process. You can also record the log gamma footage to the external recorder via the HDMI port. To assist exposure adjustment in the gamma recording, the camera includes the zebra function that shows the over-exposed parts in the image. The integrated interval timer takes up to 9999 high-resolution still images that can be combined in an editing program to create 8K time-lapses.
Other Features
The Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera features Wi-Fi connectivity that transfers images two times faster than the previous versions. It also allows you to select the bandwidth from 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. You may opt for the Bluetooth for other devices that have Wi-Fi absent. With the SnapBrigde software upgraded to 2.5, your smartphone can be used as a remote control for off-camera monitoring. The camera powers on the new EN-EL15b battery. Thanks to the magnesium alloy body with weather sealing, the camera stays functional in challenging conditions.
