Sophisticated in technology and loaded with features, the Canon AE1 Program Camera takes photography to a new level. It features the Program AE mode, which automatically sets both the aperture and shutter speed. You can control the exposure manually or automatically with the help of the TTL stopped-down match needle manual metering or the shutter speed-priority AE modes, respectively. This camera is equipped with the FD 50 mm f/1.8 SC lens, which is capable of taking pictures with crystal-clear details. The X-sync automatic-switching sync contacts, with a hot shoe and German socket, come in handy for mounting a flash, so that you can take bright pictures even in the dark.

Optics and Focus

The AE1 Program from Canon features the FD 50 mm f/1.8 SC lens, which lets you take pictures with crisp details. The exposure can be controlled manually or automatically by using the TTL stopped-down match needle manual metering or the shutter speed-priority AE modes, respectively. Use the Program AE mode for automatically setting the shutter speed and aperture. The shutter speed of this camera is 1/1000th of a second, whereas the ISO ranges from 25 to 3200.

Sensor and Screen

The Canon AE1 Program is equipped with a fixed eye-level pentaprism viewfinder, which offers a horizontal and vertical coverage of 96% and 93.5%, respectively. The split-image rangefinder is encircled by the microprism rangefinder at the center, with a fresnel matte screen. They include various functions, such as an aperture scale, exposure meter needle, overexposure warning, a stopped-down aperture metering needle, and a battery check indicator, along with an underexposure warning LED light.

Image and Video

The AE1 Program uses a 35-mm film for capturing photographs. The film can be rewound with the help of a camera-top crank. The built-in Frame Counter counts up and resets automatically when the camera back is opened. Use the slotted take-up spool for advancing the film roll with the camera-top lever’s 120° stroke and instantly positioning it at an angle of 30°. Also, you can use the Winder A feature for power winding.

Other Features

The X-sync automatic-switching sync contacts, along with the hot shoe and German socket featured in this camera, are useful for mounting a flash. With this, you can take bright pictures, regardless of the lighting condition. Finally, this camera is powered by either a 4LR44 alkaline battery or a 4G-13 6 V mercury oxide battery.
