Overview

Expand your creative vision with the Nikon Z7 Mirrorless Digital Camera. Introduced for professional videography and photography, the camera is bundled with the Nikon FTZ mount adapter that makes it compatible with the variety of F-mount lenses. The camera produces vibrant imagery using the 45.7 MP BSI CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 image processor. With this Nikon camera, you can record in crystal-clear 4K quality and shoot RAW burst images at 9 fps. The camera also includes the N-Log gamma picture profile to provide a wide dynamic range for the recorded videos, which lets you color grade the footage more freely than standard profiles. The zebra function highlights the overexposed areas in the shot to make exposure adjustment easy. With the 5-axis optical VR system, the camera controls the unwanted shakes by 5 stops if a NIKKOR Z lens is attached. Take high or low angle shots easily by tilting the 2.1m-dot tilting LCD up or down. The 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder is also incorporated to into the camera, which ensures minimal screen blackout during operation. Send captured photos to smartphones by enabling the integrated Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity. Moreover, the Nikon SnapBridge support lets you adjust the camera's exposure and other settings wirelessly.

Optics and Focus

The Nikon Z7 features the newly introduced Z-mount that is 17% wider than the ones in standard full-frame cameras. It allows more light to reach the sensor for enhancing the picture quality. A Nikon FTZ mount is provided with the camera, which fits NIKKOR F-mount lenses on this Z series camera. The adapter has a magnesium alloy construction with weather sealing to prevent dust and moisture from entering inside. With the 1/4""-20 female thread, the adapter supports large telephoto lenses when mounted on a tripod. The fast phase-detection system employs 493 AF points that are spread over 90% of the imaging area to ensure accuracy in the imaging work. For the video mode, the camera uses the Hybrid AF that takes the aid of both phase and contrast detection methods. The 5-axis sensor-shift VR system minimizes the unwanted jerky movement when shooting handheld without cropping the image. The image stabilization restricts the unwanted camera shakes by 5 stops for Z-mount lenses and 3 stops for F-mount lenses.

Sensor and Screen

This Nikon mirrorless camera produces high-quality imagery in both photo and video mode with the 45.7MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor. It guarantees fast readouts, enhanced low-light performance, and smooth AF response. The sensor has a back-illuminated design that controls the image noise at a high ISO limit up to 25600. Tilt the 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD to take high or low angle shots. The LCD provides a 2.1m-dot resolution for vivid playback. You can also frame the scene from the eye level with the 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder. The EVF has aspherical optical elements and a fluorine coat to provide real-to-life imagery.

Image and Video

The Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera packs various videography features that benefit professional video production. It shoots 4K videos at a frame rate of 30 fps. The 1080p capture is also possible at a maximum frame speed of 120 fps for creating smooth slow-motion videos. As for the still shooting, the camera takes photos with a maximum resolution of 8256×5504 pixels in JPEG and RAW formats. The EXPEED 6 image processor boosts the camera performance to support burst RAW capture at 9 fps. Derive maximum output from the footage by using the 10-bit N-log recording. It records videos in a flat profile to retain all the shadow details and highlights for the color-grading process. An HDMI port is given to connect an external recording device for storing the log gamma footage. The zebra function shows the over-exposed parts in the image when using log gamma. The integrated interval timer captures up to 9999 high-resolution still images to provide 8K time-lapses.

Other Features

The Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera comes with Wi-Fi connectivity that enables image transfers at 2× speed than the previous versions. You are allowed to select the bandwidth from 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz to obtain maximum transfer speeds. The Bluetooth function is incorporated as well for those devices, in which Wi-Fi is absent. With the SnapBrigde 2.5 software, the camera links to a smartphone for adjusting the exposure and other related settings wirelessly. This Nikon camera sports a magnesium alloy body with weather sealing to remain operational in inclement weather. The newly-developed EN-EL15b battery is included in the kit along with a power adapter.
