Overview

Plan your professional photo or video shot with the Nikon Z7 Mirrorless Camera. It comes with a NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/4 S lens and FTZ mount adapter. The camera houses a 45.7 MP full-format BSI CMOS sensor that teams up with the EXPEED 6 image processor to provide high-resolution stills and UHD 4K videos. Also, the Nikon Z7 captures continuous RAW images at a rate up to 9 fps. The N-Log gamma offers flexibility during the color-grading process by preserving the dynamic range of the image. You obtain smooth handheld shots thanks to the 5-axis optical VR image stabilization. The 3.2-inch tilting LCD provides a crystal-clear live view of 2.1m dots. It also allows high and low angle shooting with its tilting design. The 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder gives a real-to-life view of the scene with minimum blackouts during burst shooting. Enable the built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity to transfer images to smartphones. You may also control the camera remotely using the SnapBridge 2.5 support.

Optics and Focus

The Nikon Z7 supports Z-mount lenses as well as NIKKOR F lenses using the included FTZ mount adapter. Firstly, the new Z-mount maintains a seamless communication between the camera and lens to speed up the autofocus and image rendering. Also, its diameter is 17% larger than the other mounts of standard full-frame cameras to allow more light to enter inside for better the picture quality. As for the included NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/4 S lens, it uses aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion elements to maintain clarity at the edges and reduce chromatic anomalies. Both nanocrystal and super integrated coatings are given to the elements to minimize ghosting and flare. The stepping AF motor ensures silent and quick autofocus performance. With the programmable control ring, you can adjust the focus parameters as well as aperture and exposure compensation. The 493-point phase-detection system maintains the focus on the subjects even if they move to the edges of the frame. As you switch to the video mode, the camera employs the Hybrid AF that uses both phase and contrast detection methods to keep the focus pinned on the subject. The 5-axis sensor-shift VR system restricts unwanted camera shakes by 5 stops for any Z-mount lens. For NIKKOR F-mount lenses, the image stabilization offers 3-stop of reduction in the jerky movement.

Sensor and Screen

The Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera comes with a 45.7 MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor to give fast image readouts and high low-light sensitivity. Its back-illuminated design ensures noise-free imagery up to an ISO of 25600. The 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD lets you view the scene in 2.1m-dot resolution. Moreover, its tilting design makes it easy to frame high or low angle shots. The 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder is also present in the camera, which provides 3.6m-dot resolution live view. It has spherical elements to prevent distortion at the edges. A fluorine coat is also given to resist dust, moisture, and fingerprints.

Image and Video

The Nikon Z7 is a worthy pick for professional video shooting as it records UHD 4K videos at 30 fps and provides various picture profiles for utilizing the dynamic range. Apart from 4K, the camera also records in 1080p that is ideal for online uploading and live streaming. You can create amazing Full HD slow-motion effects by setting the frame rate at 100 or 120 fps. The Nikon Z also takes still shots with the highest resolution of 8256×5504 pixels in both JPEG and RAW formats. When it comes to the 9 fps RAW burst shooting, the EXPEED 6 image processor steps in to boost the camera performance to prevent lag. Select the 10-bit N-log recording to obtain flexibility during the post-production color grading. You may connect an external recorder to the camera for transferring the gamma footage via an HDMI port. The zebra function lets you know which part of the image is overexposed. The camera comes with an interval timer that captures up to 9999 high-resolution stills for making 8K time-lapses.

Other Features

The Nikon Z7 links to smartphones with the integrated Wi-Fi connectivity for transferring images to smartphones. When the Wi-Fi option is selected, you are presented with 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bandwidth options to optimize the transfer speed. The Bluetooth function works great when connecting a cellular phone. You can control your camera remotely with the SnapBrigde 2.5 support. This Nikon camera has a lightweight body thanks to its magnesium alloy construction. Weather-resistant seals are located at critical points to block dust and moisture. The camera is powered by a new EN-EL15b Li-ion battery.
