The Nikon Z8 is a compact, lightweight camera that houses much of the technology found in the Z9 but in a sleeker, more portable design. The Z8 is dubbed the "ultimate hybrid camera" because it combines the flagship's proven sensor, processor, and AF capabilities with a redesigned body design that is more suited to gimbal use, event filming, and other handheld applications.
All the depth and detail of 12-bit RAW in a file half the size of ProRes RAW HQ Files with the 12-bit N-RAW output. With 12-bit ProRes RAW HQ up to 4K60p the Nikon Z8 is a go-to for its flexibility, consistency and practicality when editing footage taken by different types of cameras all using this codec. Another industry standard output at 10-bit ProRes 422HQ up to 4K60p allows for rich depth and detail with easy grading and flexibility to edit on-the-go from a laptop.
When shooting Full HD Proxy Files these files are created in-camera when shooting in ProRes RAW and N-RAW, making editing footage a quicker and smoother process. In combination with the N-Log Profile, you'll be able to see the extensive color depth and dynamic range to give you even more control over the final look of your footage.
With the Nikon Z8 being compact and lightweight you can easily hold the camera more comfortably and move around more smoothly. Take advantage of the lighter camera system when shooting on a gimbal, with fewer cables and less setup time.
Capture 24-bit linear PCM sound right to the memory card alongside your footage. The Nikon Z8 is compatible with professional XLR microphones using Tascam's digital adapter CA-XLR-2d-AN (sold separately) to provide professional level audio quality.
Nikon proudly partners with leading innovative brands to minimize the gear you need for a shoot and to bring the best experience to the Z8 with brands like Sennheiser, Zhiyun, Atomos, Hollyland, Tascam, and more!
Capture the full dynamic range, color and image information captured by the Z8's exceptional 45.7MP full-frame sensor with RAW 14-bit. Retain the outstanding image quality of traditional RAW with approximately 1/3 smaller file size with High Efficiency RAW 14-Bit.
HEIF 10-Bit allows for richer tonal gradation than JPEG with increased luminance at a comparable file size. This is great for stills and creating 8K HLG time-lapse videos in-camera. Alternatively you can also shoot JPEG 8-Bit that applies all of the camera settings to the file for smaller file sizes and quick, easy use.
With unrivaled burst speeds and a seemingly bottomless buffer the Z8 gives you the edge when photographing birds, sports, weddings and once-in-a-lifetime moments.
The Nikon Z8 performs at lighting-fast speeds with no vibration, noise or wear and tear with virtually no rolling shutter distortion.
The Z8 can record the moments right before and after you actually press the shutter release button. Pre-Release Capture saves the shots that would have otherwise been missed.
With the Skin Softening feature it easily makes skin look its best while keeping eyes and hair tack-sharp. This feature works for up to 3 subjects in a shot.
Simple, precise control over the hues and brightness, all optimized for skin tones with Portrait Impression balance.
Nikon Z8 has an improved white balance where manual adjustments are faster and more intuitive, and even Auto WB has been optimized for human subjects.
Amongst the technical specifications that got improved in the Nikon Z8 there were many physical altercations that were made to improve the user's experience - here are some main features to improve night shoots or low-light shooting.
A sophisticated AF algorithm was developed using deep learning technology. This allows the Nikon Z8 to perform in extreme low light with focus all the way down to -9.0EV. It also combines subject detection and 3D tracking to follow the fastest, and even the most erratic subjects : People, cats, dogs, birds, airplanes, motorbikes, vehicles, bicycles and trains.
Lock onto the eyes of people, pets and birds, even when they're small in the frame, covered by hair, glasses or goggles, right-side up or upside down.
Wide-area AF offers 20 custom options for defining your focus area. Ensure the bride and groom are always in sharp focus, even when the wedding guests are in the foreground
Subject detection and AF work all the way down to -6.5EV with enhanced low-light focusing. Active the Starlight Mode and the focus drops all the way down to -9EV.
With more light reaching the sensor, fine details and textures are captured faithfully across the entire frame, from corner to corner. NIKKOR Z lenses transform out-of-focus areas into a smooth, beautiful blur that makes subjects stand out. With the largest full-frame mount of any mirrorless system, Z series lenses have larger rear elements that deliver more light to the sensor.
Many NIKKOR Z lenses all but eliminate focus breathing, maintaining a consistent viewing angle while pulling focus in videos. With the wide diameter of the Z-mount, it accommodates more communication points, that enable larger amounts of metering and autofocus data to be shared between the lens and camera.
Attach the FTZ II Adapter (sold separately) and use over approximately 360 Nikon F-Mount lenses with no loss of image quality and all the benefits of the Z8's extraordinary sensor, image processing and in-boy image stabilization
The Z8 has 5.5 stops of 5-axis image stabilization built right into its body. That means even prime lenses get the benefits of VR for steadier video footage, more low-light capabilities and sharper results overall.
Wirelessly transfer images to your smartphone, computer or even an FTP server with Z8's Wi-Fi compatibility. Remotely control the Z8 from a smartphone, sync timecodes among compatible devices and more through Bluetooth. It's full-size HDMI port allows to output clean, full resolution footage straight to an external monitor or capture device from the Nikon Z8.
With 2 USB Type-C Ports one is used as a data connector (SuperSpeed USB) for file transfers and connecting accessories, and the other dedicated for charging and providing constant power to the camera. With the dedicated Network Menu tab you can quickly access the key settings to change your connection options.
The USB Type-C data connector port supports IEEE 802.3ab gigabit Ethernet with a compatible adapter (sold separately) or upload images to a secure FTP server straight from the camera with 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi Connectivity.
Amongst the native connection options on the Nikon Z8 you also have the ability to connection utilizing other applications:
