Why won’t my Canon EOS 60D connect to EOS Utility on Windows 10?

My Canon EOS 60D suddenly stopped being detected by EOS Utility on a Windows 10 64-bit PC, even though it worked previously. I’ve already tried reinstalling EOS Utility 2 and 3, updating firmware, testing multiple USB ports and cables, and removing the camera from Device Manager. The same camera and cable do work on another Windows 10 computer with EOS Utility 2 already installed, so the issue seems specific to this PC/software setup.

Has anyone fixed a 60D connection problem like this?

I removed all the Utilies software completely, and reinstalled the Utilies v2.9 from the CD which came with the EOS 60D camera. It now works! The lesson is, don’t install any of the Utilies software updates. Just stick with the CD software. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

One reported fix was to completely remove the Canon utilities, then reinstall the older EOS Utility version that originally shipped with the EOS 60D (v2.9 from the camera’s CD), instead of using newer utility updates.

Since your 60D works on another Windows 10 machine, the camera, cable, and USB hardware are probably fine. That points to a software/driver conflict on the affected PC. For older cameras like the 60D, the matching legacy EOS Utility version can be more reliable than later updates.

So the practical next step is:

  • fully uninstall Canon utility software
  • restart the PC
  • install the original EOS Utility 2 package for the 60D from the bundled disc or Canon’s legacy software source
  • avoid layering newer utility updates on top unless needed

In short: use the older 60D-era EOS Utility rather than the latest updates.
