Why is the interval timer start option grayed out on my Nikon D800?

On my Nikon D800, I can’t start the Interval Timer Shooting function because the Start option is grayed out, even with simple settings like one shot every few seconds. I’ve tried different exposure modes, AF modes, release modes, manual focus, and turning off features like noise reduction and Active D-Lighting. The card is empty and the battery is full. Time-lapse movie mode works normally. What setting can prevent the interval timer from starting?

The problem was the option g4, by default in Video mode the shutter-release button will 'take a picture', changing it to 'Record movies' will block the intervalometer.

A setting in Custom Setting g4 can block it. On the D800, if the shutter-release button in movie mode is set to Take photos, the camera may gray out Interval Timer Shooting. Changing g4 so the shutter-release button is set to Record movies should allow the intervalometer to start again.
So check the camera’s movie-mode button behavior in the custom settings menu and switch it from taking stills to recording video.
