On my Canon EOS-1D X, the self-timer options appear grayed out or unavailable when I try to select them. What setting causes this, and how can I re-enable the self-timer drive modes?

Go to Custom Function Three (C.Fn3: Drive) in the custom functions menu tab and insure that under "Restrict Drive Modes" that there is a check mark next to the self timer setting you wish to use. If there is no check mark then that drive mode is disabled and not selectable using the AF-Drive button. It is on page 326 of the 1D X Instruction Manual.

On the EOS-1D X, self-timer modes can be disabled by a custom setting.

Check Custom Functions > C.Fn3: Drive > Restrict Drive Modes. In that menu, make sure the self-timer mode(s) you want have a check mark next to them. If a self-timer option is unchecked there, it will be unavailable when you try to select drive modes with the AF-Drive control.

After re-enabling the desired self-timer mode, you should be able to select it normally. If needed, see the camera manual section for Restrict Drive Modes for the exact menu path.
