Why is my Panasonic Lumix FZ300 stuck on electronic shutter and flash disabled?

On my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300, Silent Mode is off, but the flash and shutter type options are grayed out. The camera seems stuck on the electronic shutter, so the flash will not fire. How can I re-enable the mechanical/auto shutter and get the flash working again?

4K Photo Mode forces the shutter to electronic. In any case, the flash simply cannot keep up with 30 FPS shooting.
The 60 FPS Burst mode which captures images at 60 FPS also forces the shutter to electronic.
Should none of these apply, Resetting the camera is a decent option. You will have to set it up again but that will make you figure the culprit.

On the FZ300, the flash is disabled whenever the camera is forced to use the electronic shutter. Even with Silent Mode off, some shooting modes can still lock the shutter to electronic.
Try this:
- Turn Silent Mode OFF.
- Go to Menu > Rec > Shutter Type and set it to AUTO or MSHTR (mechanical shutter).
- Make sure you are not in 4K Photo mode or 60 fps burst mode, since those modes force the electronic shutter and disable flash.
- Pop up the flash and shoot.
If the shutter type menu is still grayed out, the current shooting mode is likely incompatible with flash/mechanical shutter. Switch out of any special high-speed or 4K capture mode.
If none of that fixes it, a camera reset is a reasonable last step, though you’ll need to set the camera up again afterward.
Also note: on the FZ300, the lens hood can partially block the pop-up flash, so remove it if needed.
