Does the Nikon D7100 create a time-lapse movie in-camera?

I used the time-lapse/interval shooting function on my Nikon D7100, but after it finishes I only see the individual photos. Does the D7100 compile these into a movie that can be played back on the camera, or do I need to create the video separately?

You can't. AFAIK most (if not all) of the photo cameras (when have timelapse option) just take series of photos, based on the defined parameters. And after the camera has finished you should use some software to build a movie from individual frames.

No. On the Nikon D7100, the time-lapse function records a series of still images at set intervals; it does not assemble them into a playable movie in-camera. That’s why you only see the individual frames afterward. To make a time-lapse video, you’ll need to import the images into software and compile them into a movie there. On this camera, the feature is essentially interval timer shooting rather than true in-camera movie creation.
