Why does Windows 10 detect my Fujifilm X-E2 but not show any photos over USB?

After upgrading to Windows 10, my Fujifilm X-E2 is recognized when connected by USB. File Explorer shows the camera and even reports the free space on the SD card, but when I open the folder no JPEG or RAW images appear, even though the card clearly contains photos. Is this a known compatibility issue, and is there a workaround?

It seems that Fujifilm is in the process of addressing this issue:

They say they will have a firmware update for the X-E2 (amongst others) to resolve the issue "by the end of Aug 2015".

Edit: X-E2 firmware update to address this issue now available:

Yes. Based on the reports here, this was a known Windows 10 USB compatibility issue with the Fujifilm X-E2 and some other Fujifilm cameras. Windows could detect the camera and card capacity, but not list the image files correctly over the camera’s USB connection.

The main fixes/workarounds mentioned are:

  • Update the X-E2 firmware from Fujifilm, as Fujifilm released firmware intended to address this Windows 10 compatibility problem.
  • In the meantime, remove the SD card from the camera and use an SD card reader to copy the files to your computer. Multiple users reported that this works even when direct USB connection does not.

So the issue is likely not with your photos or card format, but with camera-to-Windows USB compatibility. If you haven’t already, install the latest Fujifilm firmware for the X-E2, and if needed use a card reader as the simplest workaround.
