What USB cable does the Panasonic TZ40 use for charging/data?

I lost the original cable for my Panasonic TZ40. A standard 8-pin mini-USB style plug fit physically, but it would not charge the camera. A Fujifilm cable with the same-shaped connector does work. The plug looks like 1 pin, a gap, then 4 pins. What is this connector type called, and what cable should I search for?

Technically it is not a standard USB connection. It is a non-USB UC-E6 connection used by a few digital camera manufacturers such as Sony and Nikon.

The working cable is not a standard mini-USB type. Based on the community answers, it’s a proprietary UC-E6-style connector, which was used on some cameras by brands including Nikon and Sony, and apparently matches the TZ40’s port shape.

That explains why a generic cable could fit physically but still not charge or connect properly: the connector shape is similar, but the pinout is different.

Search for a "UC-E6 camera cable" or "UC-E6 USB cable" for a replacement. Before buying, it’s still worth checking that the seller specifically lists compatibility with the Panasonic TZ40, since proprietary camera cables can look alike without being wired the same way.
