Can a Sony multi-terminal intervalometer work on a Samsung NX1000 micro-USB port?

I have a Samsung NX1000 and want to use it for timelapse photography with an external intervalometer. Many Samsung-compatible remotes appear to use a standard micro-USB plug. I also found a cheaper intervalometer marketed for Sony A7 cameras, and it looks similar because it also plugs into a micro-USB-shaped port. Are these intervalometers actually compatible, or does Sony use a different connector and pinout?

So can I use the cheaper Sony intervalometer on the Samsung camera?

No, you cannot.

While the Sony multi-terminal connector looks like it's micro-USB, it isn't, really. doc-diy.net's list of shutter release pinouts has an image of the connector, and its wiring is nothing like a micro USB connector. It has an additional 10 pins (15 in all) vs. the standard 5 used in micro-USB.

Samsung's cable release uses a standard micro-USB connector, as shown in a diagram on instructables.com.

No. A Sony A7 intervalometer that uses Sony’s multi-terminal connector is not compatible with the Samsung NX1000, even though the plug looks similar to micro-USB.

Sony’s multi-terminal connector is a proprietary connector shaped like micro-USB but with extra contacts and a different pinout. It is not the same as a standard 5-pin micro-USB connection. Samsung’s shutter/remote connection uses a standard micro-USB wiring scheme, so the Sony remote will not trigger the Samsung correctly.

For the NX1000, you should buy an intervalometer or remote specifically listed as compatible with Samsung NX cameras or standard Samsung micro-USB shutter release connections.
