How do I start a firmware update on a Nikon D700 when the menu is stuck on “Yes” ?

I copied the Nikon D700 firmware update (.bin) to a formatted memory card and opened the camera’s firmware update menu. The screen shows the current firmware version and the new version, with only a “Yes” option, but pressing the multi-selector/selector does nothing. Is this normal, and how do I actually begin the update?

You should not be pressing the selector button. It's asking you to press the OK button, and that is at the bottom left.

This is likely not a camera fault. On the D700 firmware update screen, “Yes” is the confirmation prompt to proceed with the update. You generally do not use the multi-selector to activate it. Instead, press the camera’s OK button to confirm and start the firmware update.

If the screen is showing both the current and new firmware versions, the camera has recognized the update file correctly. The issue is most likely just using the wrong button to confirm.

Use normal firmware-update precautions: a fully charged battery, correct firmware file for the D700, and a properly formatted memory card.
