How can I find photos with missing metadata in Apple Aperture?

I'm cleaning up metadata on older photos imported into Apple Aperture and want to find images where a specific metadata field is blank. For example, I'd like to list all photos with no GPS location, no copyright information, or other missing EXIF/IPTC fields. Is there a way to search for empty metadata fields, and can this be saved for repeated use?

Open up any metadata search criteria, add in either EXIF or IPTC fields you want to search by (using the "Add Rule" dropdown), and indicate you want images where the EXIF/IPTC "is empty".
An example for copyright:

Yes. In Aperture’s search tool, add a rule for the metadata field you want to check, then set the condition to “is empty.”
Examples:
- For missing GPS/location data: add a rule for Place, then choose “is empty.”
- For missing copyright/creator info: add a rule for the relevant IPTC field (such as IPTC > Creator), then choose “is empty.”
You can do this in the browser view within a project, or from a view showing all photos. If you want to reuse the search often, create a Smart Album with the same rule so Aperture will automatically collect images missing that metadata.
