Can a Nikon D3000 confirm manual focus with a non-AF Nikkor 70-300mm lens?

I’m using a Nikon D3000 with a Nikkor 70-300mm lens that does not have its own autofocus motor, so autofocus does not work on this camera. When focusing manually, is there a way to get focus confirmation in the camera viewfinder or another in-camera aid to tell me when focus is correct?

I will just address your first question here - your second question is off-topic.

Your camera will already tell you if the image is in focus: a green circle/dot will appear in the bottom left corner of the viewfinder.

If you want more precision, you can turn on the rangefinder option in the settings menu that will turn the exposure meter (in P, S, and A modes) into a distance indicator.

Yes. On the Nikon D3000, you can still get focus confirmation when manually focusing a non-AF lens. When the subject is in focus, a green focus-confirmation dot appears in the lower left area of the viewfinder.

For more help, enable the Rangefinder option in the camera settings. In P, S, and A exposure modes, this uses the meter display as a guide to show whether you need to focus nearer or farther, making manual focus easier and more precise.

So while autofocus won’t work with that lens on the D3000, the camera can still assist you in confirming focus manually.
