The Dreaded Two-Headed Tuxedo and Other Observations
Same sex weddings present the biggest change and opportunity to the world of wedding photography in decades. An entirely new and potentially large client base is out there looking for photographers, and these new clients come with their own expectations of their wedding photographer.
In this must-see talk about working with this huge new market, Rosen will share some of the lessons he’s learned, including how to:
- Market to the LGBT community.
- Create a truly LGBT friendly website.
- Design wedding packages that appeal to same-sex couples.
- Ask potential clients the right questions.
- Take the next steps after booking a same-sex wedding.
- Pose and light same-sex couples.
- Recognize and feature the fluidity of gender expression.
- Shoot the wedding day: New traditions and opportunities.
- Create product packages (albums, prints, slide shows) that are more likely to appeal to same-sex couples.
- Share images while working within your clients’ privacy concerns.
Steven Rosen is an award-winning gay wedding photographer. That phrase, "gay wedding photographer", has two meanings. It could mean a photographer who shoots gay weddings, or it could mean a wedding photographer who is gay.
In this case, both definitions are true. A longtime advocate for Marriage Equality, he often turned his lens towards his community, creating images of loving and committed LGBT couples years before they won the right to marry. So when Marriage Equality became law, he had a large portfolio of relevant images to show potential clients.
He has shot over 80 same-sex weddings and has gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges and rewards of working with LGBT couples.
