The Olympus XA 2 is a point and shoot film camera having 3-zone focus indication and automatic exposure. This camera switches on when you slide the lens dust-protection barrier. The camera controls the exposure with the electronically-controlled shutter. It also adjusts the aperture range from f/3.5 to f/14 to achieve correct image exposure. The camera has a dedicated lever that makes you set the film speed from 25 to 800. Compose the shot by viewing through the bright frame finder. A long exposure warning and a flash mark is provided in the viewfinder. You can attach an optional electronic flash to the camera. The camera runs on two 1.5 V alkaline-manganese or silver-oxide batteries.

Optics and Focus

The Olympus XA 2 has a D. Zuiko 35mm f/3.5 lens integrated into its design. This built-in lens has 4 elements arranged in 4 groups. The camera uses the CdS-cell light meter for exposure adjustment. Coupled with the electronic shutter, the meter sets the exposure setting by adjusting both shutter and aperture. The camera focus is fixed at 1.2 feet to infinity. It is done via three zone indicators. You can use the focus lever to choose the focusing style for medium or landscape shots. The film speed can be set by using the dedicated lever.

Sensor and Screen

The camera has a fixed eye-level bright-frame viewfinder. It provides 0.5× magnification of the actual image. In the viewfinder, there is a long exposure warning and a flash mark.

Image and Video

The camera works on 35mm standard film negatives to capture exposures. A winding thumb reel is provided at the rear, which has a complete 360° film advance angle. You can rewind the film by using the crank located on the top left corner of the camera. The exposure film counter shows the number of frames used for taking pictures.

Other Features

The Olympus XA2 can be used with an optional automatic electronic flash A11. This point-and-shoot camera has a self-timer that makes you delay the shutter release by 12 seconds. The self-timer notifies you with a blinking LED and electromagnetic beeper. You can also use the self-timer lever for checking the battery status. The sliding cover protects the lens from dust.
