The Nikon J1 Mirrorless Digital Camera houses 1080p imaging capabilities in a light and compact body. A Nikkor VR 10–30MM zoom lens is also included in the kit. The camera is built around a 10.1 MP CX-format CMOS sensor to offer enhanced low light performance. Also, the EXPEED 3 dual image processor improves the focusing performance and data transfer. The camera records Full HD videos at 60 fps. A slow-motion movie mode is also provided to shoot videos at 400 fps. The 3.0-inch LCD monitor with anti-glare coating offers a 460K-dot resolution live view. With the built-in flash, the camera captures well-lit images in dim light. You can adjust the sensitivity of the integrated stereo microphones. An EN-EL20 Li-ion battery functions the Nikon J1 mirrorless camera.
Optics and Focus
The standard Nikkor VR 10-30mm is provided with the camera. You can also fit other Nikkor lenses to the Nikon J1. The included lens has 12 elements in 9 groups, in which three aspherical elements are placed among the rest of the glass lenses to reduce spherical aberrations. A multi-layer coating is applied to the elements to minimize ghosting and lens flare. The internal stepping AF motor offers smooth autofocus down to 0.66 feet. With the VR II image stabilization, you can shoot smooth handheld videos. The 7-blade diaphragm provides pleasing bokeh in the background. As for the camera, it allows utilization of 41 AF points along with the single-servo AF and continuous-servo AF function.
Sensor and Screen
The 10.1 MP CX-format high-speed AF CMOS sensor offers bright photos and videos even in low light conditions. Frame the final shot with the rear 3.0. LCD, which has an anti-glare coating to allow convenient viewing in sunlight. The LCD covers 100% of the frame area to offer accurate composition without any image cropping.
Image and Video
The camera records Full HD videos at a frame rate of 60 fps. It allows you to stretch the video in post-production to create slow-motion effects. The camera captures photos in JPEG and RAW with the highest resolution of 3872×2592 pixels. You can enable the continuous shooting in the AF mode only to take burst shots at 10 fps. The EXPEED 3 dual image processor boosts the system performance to support the phase detection autofocus and high-speed data transfer.
Other Features
The Nikon J1 lets you create a slideshow from the images stored in it. With the smart photo selector, the camera chooses the best shots you have captured. The built-in flash provides a guide number of 16 feet at ISO 100. You can use the integrated flash by sliding the pop-up control. A stereo microphone is incorporated into the camera for recording high-quality audio during video capture. You can play the recorded media on an HDTV with the Type C mini-pin HDMI connector. The USB port allows high-speed data transfer to a computer. An EN-EL20 rechargeable Li-ion battery powers the camera.
