The original Nano AR coating from Sony eliminates reflections that cause ghosting and flare, particularly in backlit scenarios. The lens is designed with a hood-lock mechanism that prevents the lens hood from accidentally coming off while traveling. Similarly, the zoom lock prevents the lens from getting extended under its own weight, which is a possibility during transportation. The angle of view of the lens ranges between 84° and 34°, while the minimum focus distance stands at 0.38 m. The optics of the lens are constructed with 13 elements in 18 groups, and feature one Super ED glass element and one ED element for capturing lifelike imagery.
