The Sony Alpha a7R II Mirrorless Digital Camera produces high-resolution imagery with vivid color detail. This camera works with Sony-E mount lenses. The camera uses a 42.4 MP full-frame Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor to provide improved clarity in low light. The Sony Alpha a7R II is capable of recording UHD 4K videos at 30 fps. With S-log2 gamma, the camera records videos in a wide dynamic range for providing flexibility during post-production. The Fast Hybrid AF system uses both contrast and phase detection methods to ensure quick autofocus. Your handheld videos are made smooth by the 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization. The built-in Wi-Fi with NFC function allows image transfer and remote controlling with smartphones.

Optics and Focus

The Sony Alpha a7R II is built for all E-mount lenses. You can choose from center-weighted, multi-zone, and spot-metering exposure methods. This Sony mirrorless camera takes advantage of the Fast Hybrid AF system that includes 399 phase detection focus points and 25 contrast detection points to ensure accurate and fast response. Also, the Lock-on AF tracking function offers stability when focusing on moving objects. The Eye AF function keeps the subject in focus by recognizing its pupil position. You can use the mechanical shutter for capturing clear photos of fast-paced objects. The electronic shutter ensures silent operation when taking pictures.

Sensor and Screen

This Sony mirrorless camera is equipped with a 42.4 MP full-frame Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor that offers accurate color rendition. Its gapless on-chip lens design and anti-reflection coating enhance image detail by improving light gathering. Also, the exclusion of a low-pass filter increases image sharpness. The camera has a 3-inch, 1228.8K-dot LCD that can be tilted to work from a high or low angle. Additionally, the WhiteMagic technology allows you to view the screen in bright conditions. The OLED viewfinder incorporates two double-sided aspherical elements to give a precise representation of the actual image. Both the LCD and electronic viewfinder provide 100% screen coverage.

Image and Video

This Sony camera supports 4K video recording at 30 fps and takes 42 MP images with a maximum resolution of 7952×5304 dpi in JPEG and RAW formats. In the continuous shooting mode, the camera captures up to 22 frames at 5 fps. The BIONZ X image processor boosts the overall camera performance to complement UHD shooting and burst capture. With S-Gamut and S-Log2 Gamma settings, you can use LUTs during post-production to color grade the video as per requirement. Different picture effect modes, creative style settings, and scene selection modes open up various possibilities during both video and image capture.

Other Features

The Sony a7R II features the NFC-enabled Wi-Fi connectivity that lets you send images to smartphones. Also, it enables remote controlling the camera via the PlayMemories app. This camera has a hot shoe for attaching an external flash unit. You can synchronize the mounted flash with the shutter at up to 1/250th of a second. The self-timer can be used to set the shutter release delay to 10, 5, or 2 seconds. This Sony camera runs on a 1020 mAh Li-ion battery.
