The optical design of the lens comprises 11 elements in 8 groups, which include 3 Extra-Low Dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and ensure consistent image sharpness. The Nano Crystal and Super Integrated coatings minimize lens flare and ghosting effects. A Silent Wave AF motor is included for quick and near-silent autofocusing. Moreover, the autofocus memory-recall function brings the focus back to the predetermined point. The nine-blade diaphragm offers a smooth, round bokeh in the background of photos. Thanks to the Vibration Reduction image-stabilizing feature, camera shakes are significantly reduced while shooting handheld. The lens has a magnesium die-cast barrel and a protective curved front lens to keep dust and moisture at bay.
