The Sony PXW-FS5M2 4K XDCAM Super 35mm Compact Camcorder features various functions that support professional video production. Ideal for television and filmmaking, the camera accepts all Sony E-mount lenses. A Super 35 CMOS sensor is built into the camera, which produces 4K imagery in an XAVC format at 30 fps. The S-log2 and S-log3 gamma recording functions capture videos in a flat profile to cover a wide dynamic range for post-production color grading. You can export the 10-Bit videos in real time at 60 fps to an external recorder via the SDI port. The camera has a built-in stereo microphone for high-quality video recording. You may also connect external microphones to the two 3-pin XLR mic/line inputs. The integrated NFC and LAN support makes the camera ideal for live streaming. With the dual media card slots, you can continue to shoot for a more extended period.
Optics and Focus
The Sony PXW-FS5M2 is built for E-mount lenses. It has built-in ND filters that let you reduce the excess exposure by 2, 4, or 6 stops. With the built-in electronic ND filter, you can control the exposure when using a slow shutter in bright conditions. You may adjust the shutter speed from 1/8th to 1/10000th of a second for the 60i recording. The Sony proprietary clear zoom technology allows enlargement of the zoomed image by 200% for 1080p and 150% for 4K.
Sensor and Screen
This Sony professional camcorder embodies a 4K Super 35 Exmor CMOS sensor for fast image readouts. Moreover, the sensor renders Full HD videos with better quality than other Full HD sensor cameras. The sensor also ensures high-sensitivity in low light and a wide field of view. With the 14-stop exposure latitude, the camera guarantees that every minute detail is captured in the image. The advanced camera processing reduces moiré and aliasing. You can view the scene composition on the 3.5-inch LCD that offers a 1560K-dot resolution view of the scene. Also, the touchscreen design makes it easy for you to navigate through different menus. You may even frame the shot with the 1440K-dot OLED viewfinder.
Image and Video
The camera records 4K videos in S-Log2 and S-Log3 picture profiles that give a wide dynamic range to adjust the video look in post-production. You can shoot an HD video at 120 fps, which starts with an 8-second long burst at 240 fps. The camera uses cache recording at Full HD 10-bit 4:2:2 image quality to offer high frame rates. You can use an external monitor via the SDI port to record RAW 4K footage directly.
Other Features
The Sony PXW-FS5M2 comes with a built-in omnidirectional microphone. You can fix two microphones on the 3-pin XLR connectors that offer +48V phantom power. The microphone gain can be adjusted with the dedicated control wheels. You can shift the video display to an HD monitor using the HDMI port for improved scene monitoring. The camera supports live streaming with its RJ45 LAN port and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Take advantage of the Near-Field-Connectivity function to remotely operate the camera. With the GPS function, the camera fetches the location and date and imprints it on the media file. A Sony BP-U Series Li-ion battery is provided with the camera. The Sony PXW-FS5M2 can also be plugged into an external power source with its DC input.
