The Contax IIIa Rangefinder Camera keeps up with the expectations of a professional photographer who adores analog film photography. Along with this camera, you get a Zeiss 50mm f/2 lens, which is designed on the basis of the Planar optical model with six elements arranged in four groups. The unique feature of the Contax IIIa is the combination of the rangefinder and viewfinder for a better focusing performance. With the metal focal plane shutter, you can take photos of moving objects clearly at 1/1250th of a second. Bulb and Time exposure modes are also included for clicking pictures with long exposures. The removable camera back makes it easy to load and unload films as well as to clean the camera. This film camera is purely mechanical and doesn't require batteries.
Optics and Focus
This rangefinder camera from Contax has a Zeiss 50mm f/2 lens fixed on the front. The optical construction of the lens is based on the Planar design and comprises six elements arranged in four groups. The elements bear the T* anti-reflective coating, which minimizes glaring and lens flare. The diaphragm of the lens consists of 10 blades that completely transforms a regular image into a pleasant one by producing a beautiful bokeh effect in the defocused area behind the subject. The lens offers an angle of view of 47° and can capture sharp photos even from a close distance of 70 cm. Both the distance meter and the viewfinder assist in accurate focusing.
Sensor and Screen
Along with the built-in viewfinder, this Contax film camera offers the option of attaching a separately available finder on the finder shoe.
Image and Video
This Contax camera works with a 35mm perforated cine film. You may open the camera back to take out or load the film safely.
Other Features
You may set the Contax IIIa Rangefinder camera at Time or Blub to capture an image with a long exposure. For connecting the camera with an external flash, use a cord on the dedicated socket at the back. An electronic flash can be synchronized with the camera’s shutter at 1/1250th of a second. This camera has a metal design with a leather cover. A tripod socket beneath the camera helps in mounting it on a stable base.
