The Nikon N65 SLR is intended for those who prefer the aesthetics delivered by film photography. A Nikon 28–80mm f/3.3–5.6G lens comes along with the camera. The Nikon N65 carries has the program, semi, and manual exposure modes. You can choose the exposure metering method from the 6-segment 3D Matrix and center-weighted metering. The camera can take continuous shots at 2.5 fps thanks to the built-in motor for the film advance mechanism. You can compose the shot with the optical viewfinder. The top LCD panel makes you review the camera setting before taking the picture. With the built-in Speedlight flash, the camera lets you capture photographs at night or in dim indoor areas. An optional remote controller can be connected to the camera for triggering it from a distance. This camera requires two 3 V CR2 batteries.
Optics and Focus
The Nikon 28–80mm f/3.3–5.6G lens allows you to take images from both wide-angle and close-up. Its optical design includes 6 elements arranged in 6 groups. The front element is a compound aspherical, thus ensuring edge-to-edge clarity. Also, a super integrated multicoating is applied to improve light transmission for producing saturated images. This lens can capture clear photos of objects that are 0.35m away from it. The camera has the Nikon Multi-CAM900 autofocus module with AF-assist illuminator that uses TTL phase-detection method. During the focusing operation, the Auto-Servo AF chooses from Single Servo AF or Continuous Servo AF depending whether the subject is stationary or moving. You can use the autobracketing function within ±2EV to take three consecutive shots with different exposures.
Sensor and Screen
The Fixed eye-level pentaprism viewfinder gives 0.68× magnification and 89% of screen coverage. You can also adjust the diopter from -1.5 to +0.8 m to suit your eyepoint power. An LCD is integrated into the camera design that shows current settings for the focus, shutter, aperture, exposure, and flash.
Image and Video
The camera is designed to work with 35mm film negatives. You can take multiple exposures when using the camera in program, shutter-priority, aperture-priority and manual mode. The camera automatically sets the ISO film speed for DX-coded films. As you insert the film and close the camera back, it is directly set to the first frame. Dedicated integrated motors handle both film winding and rewind operations. Thanks to the automatic film winding, the camera makes you capture continuous shots at 2.5 fps.
Other Features
The camera has a built-in Speedlight flash with a guide number of 39 at ISO 100 and convergence angle of a 28mm lens. You can attach an external flash unit to the hot shoe. The mounted flash can be synchronized with the shutter at 1/90th of a second. With the self-timer, you can delay the shutter release by 10 seconds. This camera has an option to link a remote to control it from a distance, especially when taking long-exposure shots.
