The lens is equipped with VC image-stabilization technology, which helps in reducing blur by up to five stops, even in dimly lit areas, thereby rendering sharp, blur-free photos. The BBAR and eBAND technologies come in handy for minimizing flare and ghosting, as well as increasing the light transmission for clear, sharp pictures with high contrast. Use the tripod mount—made with lightweight magnesium and compatible with an Arca-Swiss quick-release plate—for installing the lens on a tripod. The lens features a nine-blade, circular, electromagnetic diaphragm that is controlled by a motor via electronic pulse signals. The optical construction of the lens comprises 23 elements in 17 groups. Thanks to the sealants, the lens is dust-resistant and moisture-proof, and therefore safe for outdoor use. Moreover, its water- and oil-repellent fluorine coating keeps the lens clear of moisture, dust, dirt, and fingerprints. The lens offers compatibility with a TAP-in Console in order to install firmware updates. The lens can be used with Tamron tele converters for shooting at farther telephoto ranges.
