OVERVIEW

As part of our new RF-S lens line, the RF-S18–45mm F4.5–6.3 IS STM gives you the flexibility you desire without taking up your whole camera bag. This lens was designed with smaller APS-C sensors in mind, and when attached to a full frame EOS R camera, automatically enables the 1.6x crop mode. It offers 100% x 100% Dual Pixel CMOS AF coverage for APS-C sensors, and 80% x 80% Dual Pixel CMOS AF coverage for Full Frame sensors (in crop mode).

Powerful and Compact

The small size of the RF-S18–45mm F4.5–6.3 IS STM and clever lens retraction mechanism lets it fit just about anywhere, making it a great lens to bring with you on a walk or wherever the day takes you. The lead screw-type stepping motor (STM) helps ensure smooth autofocus and quiet operation, letting you capture videos with great audio and minimal background noise so you won't distract your subject in a quiet photo environment. Optical Image Stabilization provides up to 4 stops of correction, and up to 6 stops with Coordinated IS. This advanced image stabilization can result in sharper photos with minimal blur, even in low light situations. When you add all of this together, you get a wonderful, lightweight, and versatile lens that is designed to fit into your life.

Excellent Image Quality

Continuing on a tradition of high-quality lens technology, the two aspheric elements help reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for excellent image quality with high resolution and contrast, and the Canon Super Spectra Coating helps ensure outstanding color balance while minimizing ghosting and flare.

Optical Image Stabilization

At up to 4 stops of shake correction and up to 6 stops of shake correction when paired with EOS R series cameras you can capture amazingly clear and steady results while shooting handheld photos or videos. When combined with an EOS R Series camera with an In-Body Image Stabilizer, you can experience the additional benefits of even more shake correction.

Quiet Stepping Motor

The RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens uses a gear type stepping motor to provide smooth and quiet autofocus when shooting both stills and video. Focus appears seamless while following a subject with Servo AF, or Movie Servo AF.

Updated Lens-Retraction Mechanism

This updated mechanism (based on the EF-M lenses) changed the lock switch to a faster action twist motion that allows the lens to retract into itself. Ultimately this allows the lens itself for a compact, lightweight and portable design.

Capture Amazing Shots Wherever You Are

The Canon RF-S 18-45mm has a minimum focus distance of 7.9" in Autofocus Mode, shooting at a maximum magnification of 0.16x in Autofocus Mode or 0.26x in Manual Focus mode (at 45mm). Capture amazing shots wherever you are and whatever your subject, making this not just an ideal lens for everyday casual shooting but also for more intricate shots like food and smaller subjects you really want to show off.
