It's a fine time to exercise your macro photography at Longwood Gardens with Michael Downey! Their Conservatory is one of the world's great greenhouse structures and shelters 20 indoor gardens and 5,500 types of plants. At present, there are 195,668 square feet — or 4.5 acres — of covered display, production, and research greenhouses.

It's always filled with color, texture, form, and surprise, but when dozens of Longwood horticulturists are invited to express their passion for orchids (combined with an incomparable level of dedication and creativity), you have something that truly transcends description. Under the sparkling glass ceiling of the historic Orangery are a half-dozen opulent orbs boasting a bounty of blooms in the purest white. Chartreuse Cymbidium orchids sprout from an orange carpet of Seemannia to create a moment that will take your breath away.

Once the group is together, Michael will distribute tickets and then begin the seminar. He'll go over settings, techniques, and some next-level tips for flowers and macro photography. Michael will also have some accessories and tools that will help you get the best photos possible. A leisurely stroll through the display areas takes about 1½ hours and covers about ½ mile.

*Limited to 10 registrants.
*Includes admission to gardens.
*Meet Michael at the Visitor's Center & Garden Shop.
