Photographing pets in a studio environment allows for almost endless creative images, but putting all the pieces together can be challenging. Award-winning photographer and author Andrew Darlow will share many of his secrets for photographing pets indoors and outside, with a specific focus on studio photography. He will then cover some “Power User” Lightroom tips to help you move quickly through the culling and editing process, while making your images look their best.

Two sets (one with continuous lighting and one with strobes) will be set up, and at least two hours will be allocated for attendees to take pictures of live pets!

Every attendee will also receive Biscuit for Your Thoughts?, an award-winning full-color, hardcover book by Andrew Darlow, which contains nearly 50 adorable photographs by Andrew, paired with humorous canine-inspired philosophical quotes.

Please bring a lunch or snack.
This class is limited to 20 attendees.

During the workshop, the following topics will be covered:
- Presentation by Andrew Darlow of selected pet photographs shot in different lighting situations, with descriptions of the lighting, camera, lens, modes used, etc.
- Step-by-step description of how to set up your camera for continuous lighting situations vs. strobe setups.
- How to make adjustments for color temperature and how to balance color during and after the session.
- Specific suggestions for affordable compact flash units, continuous lighting options, radio triggers for wireless shooting, softboxes, fill cards and other gear.
- How to work with both pets and people who you photograph together with their pets.
- Tips and tricks for getting pets to look at the camera, and how to get priceless expressions from almost any pet.
- A one hour “crash course” on how to import and back up your digital files effectively, plus how to use Lightroom 5 to view, color balance and edit your images.

Requirements: A camera is required to take this workshop (a DSLR or higher-end compact camera is ideal, but any camera that can shoot in Aperture Priority or Full Manual Mode can be used for this workshop.) A laptop with Adobe Lightroom 5 installed is not required, but recommended. A bag lunch and/or a snack is recommended (for you, not the pets!).

Some basic knowledge of Digital SLRs or higher-end compact cameras is also required.

"Very helpful class. Andrew was organized and efficient with having prepared the lists of resources including websites and  product info. with the handout and in follow up e-mails to participants. This helped us to focus on paying attention without scrambling to write it all down. It's a great benefit to have access to Andrew even after the class.  He has been very responsive to help me make some product decisions that fit my budget."     -Lissette Roman

"I thoroughly enjoyed the Pet Photography workshop. Andrew Darlow was prepared, knowledgeable & accessible. After the interesting & informative presentation, three work stations were set up to demonstrate three different kinds of indoor lighting. There was plenty of time for the hands on portion with the pet models. I only wish the class was a little smaller to ensure more individual time with the instructor."   -Robin T., Glen Ridge, NJ
