Will a Canon lens bought in the USA be covered under warranty in India?

I bought a Canon lens from Amazon in the USA and now live in India. The lens is still within its warranty period, and I may also sell it.

Does Canon lens warranty purchased in the USA remain valid in India? Are Canon lenses covered by an international warranty, or is coverage limited by the country/region where the lens was sold?

Also, what does Canon mean by “international warranty” for cameras versus lenses?

"International" might mean just USA+Canada - that's already two countries, so it's international. And that's how it's written in current Canon EF Lenses Limited Warranty from Canon USA:

The limited warranty set forth below is given ... with respect to the Canon ... Photographic Lens Products ... when purchased and used in the United States or Canada.

To make sure what terms apply to your lens, refer to the warranty documentation that came with your lens. If it says worldwide, India should be included. If your local service refuses to accept it, try contacting Canon USA to help arranging the service in your country.

Note that Canon has given the warranty to you, the original buyer, not the person you're selling the lens to; if they have data about your ownership, they may refuse to transfer the warranty to the second-hand buyer (who obviously won't be have gotten the lens from an authorized dealer).

Usually, Canon warranty coverage is tied to the country or sales region the product was sold for, not automatically worldwide. For Canon USA lens warranties, the quoted terms commonly state coverage applies when the lens is purchased and used in the United States or Canada, so that would not normally mean India.

The most reliable source is the warranty card or documentation that came with your lens. If it explicitly says worldwide or international coverage, India may be included; if it only mentions the USA/Canada or a specific region, service in India may be refused.

Also note that warranty coverage is generally for the original purchaser, so if you sell the lens, the buyer may not be able to claim warranty service even if time remains.

If you need confirmation, contact Canon support for the region listed on the warranty documents and ask whether service can be arranged in India.
