Why won’t my Nikon D3300 zoom in during image playback?

I’m new to using a Nikon D3300. After taking a photo, I can review it on the rear screen, but pressing the magnify/zoom-in (+) button doesn’t seem to do anything. I can zoom out to the multi-image thumbnail view, but I can’t zoom in on a single photo. Is there a setting that affects playback zoom, or could the button be faulty?

I have the exact same model, try pressing and holding the zoom in (magnification with a + symbol inside it) for a few seconds. The camera should zoom into your photo, otherwise I'd return the camera to Nikon considering its not an old model, yours is probably still covered under warranty.

To all those people asking how he can zoom out without zooming in, I think what he means is when the camera zooms out to display several photos in order to be able to scroll through them faster.

On the D3300, playback zoom may behave differently depending on how you’re viewing the image. Try these checks:

  • Press the Playback button first and review the photo from normal playback, then try the + magnify button.
  • Press and hold the + button for a moment rather than just tapping it.
  • If you’re in the zoomed-out thumbnail/multi-image view, return to a single image first, then zoom in.

If the camera still never zooms in during normal playback, but the zoom-out/thumbnails function works, the + button may not be working correctly. In that case, it’s reasonable to have the camera inspected or returned under warranty if applicable.
