Why won’t my Fujifilm X-E3 focus or take a photo?

My Fujifilm X-E3 suddenly won’t autofocus or fire the shutter. The display appears to show autofocus mode, but everything looks out of focus and pressing the shutter button does nothing. I’m new to the camera and may have changed something by accident. What should I check first?

Notice that the aperture is listed as "F 0". I bet the lens isn't attached right — try removing it and putting it back.

A likely cause is that the lens isn’t mounted correctly. On the X-E3, if the camera can’t communicate with the lens, it may show an aperture value like F 0, autofocus may stop working, and the shutter may not behave normally.

Try this:

  1. Turn the camera off.
  2. Remove the lens.
  3. Reattach it carefully, aligning the mount marks and twisting until it clicks firmly into place.
  4. Turn the camera back on and test autofocus and the shutter again.

If it still shows F0, remove and remount the lens once more and check that it’s fully locked. A bad lens connection is the most likely explanation based on the symptoms described.
