Why isn’t Lightroom 5.7.1 showing GPS data from my Canon 6D files?

I’m importing image files from a Canon 6D into Lightroom 5.7.1, but the GPS location information in the files does not appear in Lightroom. Is there a setting during import or in metadata handling that could cause Lightroom to ignore or overwrite existing GPS data?

During import, under ´metadata` I had checked off and left the fields blank, meaning LR would overwrite any values present. Uncheking fixed the problem!

Yes. A likely cause is an import metadata setting overwriting the file’s existing GPS information. In Lightroom’s Import dialog, check the Metadata section: if a metadata preset is enabled with blank location fields, Lightroom can replace the embedded GPS data with empty values. Disable that metadata preset (or uncheck metadata application during import) and re-import the files. Once that setting is removed, Lightroom should retain and display the GPS data already written by the Canon 6D.
