Why does my Nikon 1 J1 shut off in every mode except Smart Photo Selector?

My Nikon 1 J1 has already had the 10-30mm lens service fix. Recently, the camera powers off whenever I try to use any shooting mode other than Smart Photo Selector. Has anyone seen this before, and is there anything I can do?

You can send it to Nikon for a repair estimate. This can be economical depending on the fault.
The 10-30 had a fairly common fault mode which resulted in an all black image - I had one repaired for free by Nikon. Your fault seems unrelated but it might be worth getting Nikon to look at it.

This sounds more like a hardware fault than a setting issue. Based on the community responses, the best next step is to have Nikon inspect it and provide a repair estimate.
The Nikon 1 10-30mm lens did have a known common fault, often causing a black image, and Nikon repaired many of those lenses. However, your symptom—camera shutting down in most modes except Smart Photo Selector—doesn’t match that typical lens problem, so it may be a different camera or lens fault.
If you haven’t already, you could briefly test with another compatible lens or check whether removing/reseating the lens changes anything, but the advice given points to professional service rather than a simple user fix.
