Why does my Logitech C930e webcam show a faint PCB-like ghost image?

My Logitech C930e webcam suddenly started showing an image that looks like the circuit board printed over the video. There was no obvious software change, so I’m trying to understand what could cause this and whether it can be fixed. Is this likely a sensor failure, or could stray light be leaking into the camera body or lens mount?

It seems that light may be leaking in behind the sensor. Look for damage to the casing. Maybe the cure is a bit of black tape. I wouldn't think a device of this price is worth more than an ad hoc repair.

This is most likely caused by an internal light leak, not the sensor “seeing” the PCB normally. In your case, the community found that a small plastic locating pin in the lens mount had fallen out, leaving a tiny hole behind the lens/sensor assembly. Light entering through that hole created the ghostly board pattern.

A practical fix is to inspect the webcam body and lens mount for any cracks, gaps, or missing plastic pieces that could let light in. If you find a small opening, covering it with opaque black insulating tape can stop the artifact. If there’s external casing damage, black tape over the leak may also help.

So: this is potentially fixable if the issue is a light leak. If the housing or internal mount is damaged beyond a simple patch, replacement may be more sensible than a major repair.
