Why does my Canon 600D still show 'Card write error' with a new SD card?

My Canon 600D shows a 'Card write error' message. I first noticed the write-protect tab on my old SD card was broken, so I replaced the card with a new one. However, the camera still shows the same error even though the new card is not locked and works normally in a computer. What could be causing this, and what should I check next?

Dude, I hit the same issue a long time back; totally messed up my 600D. I even bought new SD cards and tried, but nothing worked. I finally understood that it had a problem with the SD card slot that holds the SD card. Go to a service center and change the card slot, it costs approximately 2000 INR (30$).

If a known-good replacement SD card still gives a 'Card write error' in the Canon 600D, the likely causes are:

  1. The new card is not compatible with the camera, or
  2. The camera has a fault, especially around the SD card slot/card reader.

Since the card works in a computer, that points more toward the camera than the card itself. A damaged or worn card-slot mechanism can cause this even with multiple cards.

What to do next:

  • Try another compatible SD card if possible.
  • If the error persists, have the camera inspected by Canon service or a reputable local repair shop.
  • A camera store may also be able to refer you to a repairer.

In short: if more than one suitable card fails in the camera, servicing is the most likely next step.
