I'm comparing sensor formats and need to match the Canon EOS 550D to one of these options:
- 35mm film
- Medium format
- Canon 10D
- Canon 30D
- Canon 300D
- Canon 5D / 5D Mark II
- Canon 450D / 1000D
- Canon 50D
Which option has the closest sensor size to the 550D?

- Canon 450D: 22.2 x 14.8mm
- Canon 50D: 22.3 x 14.9mm
- Canon 1000D: 22.2 x 14.8mm
- Canon 30D: 22.5 x 15.0mm
- Canon 300D: 22.7 x 15.1mm
- Canon 10D: 22.7 x 15.1mm
Canon 550D is 22.3 x 14.9mm, so its same as 50D.

The Canon EOS 550D uses a Canon APS-C sensor measuring about 22.3 × 14.9 mm.
From your list, the closest match is the Canon 50D, which is also 22.3 × 14.9 mm. The 450D and 1000D are also extremely close at 22.2 × 14.8 mm, and the 10D/30D/300D are all in the same APS-C range.
So in practical terms, all of those APS-C Canon bodies are effectively the same format, while 35mm film and the 5D series are full-frame, and medium format is much larger.
