What is the retaining ring that secures a large-format lens to a lens board, and how do I find the right one?

I bought a large-format lens that is missing the threaded ring used to secure the shutter/lens assembly to the lens board. The lens is a Rodenstock Sironar-N 210mm. What is this part called, and how do I determine which replacement to buy?

The ring should be matched to the lens board and shutter, not the lens. You need to find a ring that matches whatever lensboard you plan to use. Of course your lens also needs to be made to fit the shutter/lens board you plan to use.

A simple google search for something like "lens board ring Copal #0" should give you all kinds of links to eBay sellers with the appropriate ring you need.

The part is usually called a retaining ring (or lens board retaining ring). For large-format lenses, it generally matches the shutter size and lens board hole, not the lens name itself. In other words, you need a retaining ring that fits the shutter your Sironar-N is mounted in and the board opening you’re using. Common shutter sizes are things like Copal #0, #1, or #3. Once you confirm the shutter size, search for that specific ring—for example, “lens board retaining ring Copal #0” or similar. These are commonly found from large-format parts sellers and on marketplaces like eBay.
