How can I tell whether a Nikon D7100 rear screen problem is the LCD or the main board?

My Nikon D7100 rear LCD works only intermittently. Most of the time it stays off, and occasionally it partially works before failing again. I checked and re-seated the ribbon cable connections, but that did not help. Applying pressure around the LCD and backlight area also made no difference. How can I determine whether the fault is in the LCD assembly itself or on the camera’s main board?

So I tried my luck and bought whole new LCD..and it WORKS. So mainboard is ok.

Looks like it was a problem with moisture/water problem. It's at the bottom of the camera and maybe old seal around the LCD was not perfect. Last time it was working I visited seaside..

If you are unsure, you can remove LCD and check it thoroughly..look for rust/water damage.

Based on the reported outcome, the fault was the LCD assembly, not the main board. Replacing the entire LCD fixed the problem.

If a D7100 screen is intermittent and re-seating the ribbon cables does not help, the LCD module itself is a likely failure point. Moisture or water ingress can also cause this, especially around the lower rear area of the camera where the screen is mounted. In this case, suspected moisture exposure was likely the cause.

A practical check is to remove the LCD assembly and inspect it closely for signs of corrosion, rust, or water damage. If the connectors look fine but the screen still behaves erratically, replacing the LCD assembly is a reasonable next step before assuming a main-board fault.
